Seth Martin, MD, MHS, is a professor in the Division of Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. A dedicated clinician and clinical educator, he is a member of the Johns Hopkins bedside medicine faculty. Dr Martin is also a core faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease, directing the Advanced Lipid Disorders Program and the Digital Health Innovations Lab. Finally, he is the firm faculty leader for the Barker Firm of the Osler Medical Residency, a position he has held since 2023.
Dr Martin is a prior American Society for Preventive Cardiology board member and a current AI and Health Technology Working Group member. He also currently serves on the American Heart Association (AHA) Health Technology Advisory Group, previously served as chair of the AHA National Statistics Committee, and currently serves as president of the Maryland AHA Board.
His research is grounded in preventive cardiology, at the intersections of digital health, artificial intelligence, and health equity. Using a database of more than 1 million patients, Dr Martin led the development of an improved low-density lipoprotein cholesterol algorithm that was externally validated in databases, cohort studies, and clinical trials, and has been clinically adopted at scale around the world in professional guidelines and practice.
Dr Martin is co-founder of the Corrie Health digital platform, which has been developed to re-engineer the patient and clinician experience to promote guideline-directed cardiovascular care. He has helped to train many students, residents, fellows, post-docs, and young faculty members. In 2020, Dr Martin was the recipient of the Frederick L. Brancati Excellence in Mentoring Award. Moreover, he was selected as one of 125 Living the Hopkins Mission honorees, who are individuals who personify Johns Hopkins Medicine’s mission to improve the health of the community and the world by setting the standard of excellence in medical education, research, and clinical care, in celebration of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine’s 125th anniversary.
