Jonathan M. Spergel, MD, PhD, is a professor of pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also chief of the Allergy Section, director of the Food Allergy Center, and director of the Center for Pediatric Eosinophilic Disorders at CHOP.


Dr Spergel completed his undergraduate training at Princeton University and his medical and graduate training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (currently known as the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai). He completed his pediatric residency at Yale New Haven Hospital and his allergy/immunology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.


His research has focused on the bench-to-bedside treatment of food allergy, atopic dermatitis, and eosinophilic esophagitis, as well as on the prevention of the atopic march. Dr Spergel has key mechanistic and clinical findings in eosinophilic esophagitis. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles.
