MeiLan K. Han, MD, MS, is chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine and the Henry Sewall Endowed Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan.
Dr Han’s research focuses on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), particularly the use of quantitative imaging to define disease phenotypes. She has led multiple National Institutes of Health–funded clinical and translational studies in the field.
A recipient of the European Respiratory Society Gold Medal in COPD, Dr Han is internationally recognized for her leadership in redefining early disease detection and advancing personalized approaches to COPD care. She is also a member of the international Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease committee charged with developing diagnosis and management strategies for COPD. Finally, she is the author of Breathing Lessons: A Doctor’s Guide to Lung Health, a book for the public on lung health.
