Sonya Reid, MD, MPH, is an associate professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She also practices at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, where she is assistant director of community outreach and engagement.
Dr Reid completed her fellowship in hematology/oncology at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, her residency in internal medicine and chief residency at Meharry Medical College, and her clinical fellowship in hematology/oncology and fellowship in molecular and genetic epidemiology of cancer at Vanderbilt University.
Dr Reid's research primarily focuses on young-onset breast cancer, hereditary breast cancer, and racial disparities in breast cancer. One of her research efforts is focused on investigating genomic differences that may be contributing to the racial survival disparity in breast cancer.
She received the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award in recognition of her work in diversity, inclusion, and equity. Clinically, she focuses on caring for patients with breast cancer and has a special interest in young-onset breast cancer. In addition to her research and clinical work, Dr Reid collaborates with institutional stakeholders in her role as assistant director of community outreach and engagement at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center. In this leadership role, she collaborates with institutional stakeholders to identify and address barriers to clinical trial participation, with a focus on improving access to and enrollment in clinical trials across the center.
